The Palace of
the Popes is one of the most important gothic palace in Europe.
Built between 1334 - 1342 and become Popes residence in 14th century.
The era with 9 Popes was opened in 1309 with Pope ClementV, who left
Rome for insecurity.
With the coming of the Popes Avignon
was transformed into a second Rome. Avignon remained Papal territory up
until the French Revolution.

was built in the 12th century. It was the main path between Lyon
and the sea. Damaged and several times rebuild afterwards.
